In returning to Jerusalem, Paul took the risk of serving for the cause of Christ. God gives no guarantee that our efforts to serve God by serving others will succeed. God does, however, promise to be our security and hope. When we risk losing earthly security we gain comfort and courage from God who really is our only security.
