Our Team


Sara Barnaby – Administrator and Ministry Coordinator

Sara has been a member of Discovery for over twenty years. She has served in many ministry positions, including Elder. Most recently she has been hired to serve as the administrative and communication link within the church. Through emails, text, bulletin announcements, weekly prayer requests, ministry leader reports, setting schedules and a host of other ways, Sara serves the church family by enhancing strong communication lines. This position also includes church office hours, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Sara is married with three children. She is also a licensed counselor.

Kristi Stulp – Worship Director

Kristi and her family have been members for Discovery for eight years. For most of her adult life she has worked for or volunteered for Young Life. She currently is a leader in their Young Lives ministry, focusing in on single teenage moms. Kristi has serve most recently as the Youth Director at Discovery, and continues to minister as a youth leader, but most recently has been hired as the Worship Director. Leading worship is not new to Kristi as she has done it in many of her ministry contexts, including for years at Discovery as a volunteer. Kristi and her husband Flash have two children.



Rev. Paul Sausser – Pastor

Pastor Paul and his wife Renae have been at Discovery for twelve years. Through preaching, leading, and discipling, Pastor Paul has helped lead the church into spiritual, missionary, and numerical growth. He has a M.Div. degree from Calvin Theological Seminary and a D.Min. degree from Bethel Theological Seminary in St. Paul. He has served at three other churches leading up to Discovery. Pastor Paul is a lifelong learner, especially in the area of biblical literature and ancient biblical culture. He and his wife Renae, a retired nurse, enjoy hiking, biking, running, traveling, reading, and cooking new dishes.

Rev. Mary Sterenberg – Pastor of Prayer and Spirituality

Pastor Mary is a charter member of Discovery. While serving in many leadership and ministerial roles at Discovery, four years ago she was ordained by our denominational regional area as a Commissioned Pastor of Spirituality and Prayer. While serving the Discovery in a variety of pastoral and teaching ways, Pastor Mary is very engaged in the prayer ministry around West Michigan, in our denominational Home Missions department, and in the para-church ministry called Presbyterian and Reformed Ministries International. She recently received her Pastoral Care Certificate from Calvin Theological Seminary. Pastor Mary and her husband Bruce have three married children and an ever growing number of grandchildren.


Bill Ter Haar – Director of Youth and Outreach

Bill is the most recent addition to the Discovery family. God has used Bill’s joyful personality to bless, lead, and teach young people. He received his degree from Kuyper College in Youth Ministry. He has served as youth intern and youth pastor at two Western Michigan churches and has extensive involvement in Cran Hill Ranch, where he is now a board member. He comes with a passion to see young lives be transformed by the love and power of God. Bill also leads our already existing Outreach and Missions Teams. Helping Discovery to keep growing in these areas, as well as coming in with new insights and a life of experience, Bill is a welcome addition to help our church move to the next level of outreach ministry. Bill’s wife Lisa is a teacher at Dutton Christian School and a board member of Youth Unlimited.

Kwangjin Pyeon – Seminary Pastor

Kwangjin (KJ) has recently joined the Discovery family. KJ is a first year student at Calvin Seminary. He received his degree in Religious Studies at Trinity Christian College. His home is in South Korea where his family lives—how thankful he is for technological communication! As a first year student at Calvin Seminary, KJ is learning about American churches and the different roles and responsibilities church leaders have here. He is involved in a variety of ministry areas so as to acquire a bigger picture of church life. His big smile helps people feel right at home with him. KJ is a first time uncle to a nephew born in Korea that he will see for the first time in the summer of 2018.
